Top officials at the Department of Data are on assignment this week, collecting a non-random sample of whatever fish happen to be biting in the lakes and streams of the Western United States. In our absence, we’re sending you, our beloved email subscribers, this minute-long video about a recent column on the politics of hearing loss.

Areas with higher hearing loss tend to have higher rates of Republican support. But the Department of Data found it's more complicated than that. (Video: Daron Taylor/The Washington Post)

This video is part of an experiment with alternative data delivery systems we’ve been conducting with the help of newly deputized DoD agents Daron Taylor and CJ Riculan. You might see another one in the not too distant future. Let us know what you think!

But perhaps you’ve been away on your own sampling expeditions recently. If so, click here to catch up with our recent releases.

As always, the Department of Data is eager to collect your queries. What are you curious about? How often do state wildlife departments use rotenone to wipe out fish populations? What states have the highest number of unlicensed zoos and aquariums? Have Americans finally had enough India Pale Ale? Just ask!

If your question inspires a column, we’ll send you an official Department of Data button and ID card.
